Ateliers deMonaco New Admiral Chronographe Flyback Armure
For the first time in its history, the Geneva-based watch manufacture Ateliers deMonaco features a stainless steel case in its Admiral Chronographe Flyback collection.
The Armure treatment:
Ateliers deMonaco introduces a new timepiece forged out of the brand’s desire to innovate and work with state-of-the-art technology. Inspired by the armour of the “Chevalier en Armure” beared by the seal of Monaco, the Admiral Chronographe Flyback presents a special feature. The 42mm case is treated with a process called Armure which enables the steel to be about five times more scratch-resistant than regular steel.
Technical prowess:
The Armure treatment is not a coating. It’s defined as a low temperature carbon diffusion chemical process that hardens the steel’s surface. Standard steel is normally around 220 HV (Vickers Hardness number – a quantitative measure of the hardness of metals). Following the Armure treatment, the steel can measure up to 1200 HV.
Manufacture movement:
Respecting tradition and watchmaking know-how, the Admiral Chronographe Flyback Armure timepieces are powered by the patented dMc-760 flyback chronograph calibre. The latter is in-house developed, in-house produced and in-house assembled in the brand’s Manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates, Switzerland. This movement is embellished by a 22K gold rotor and engraved with Monaco’s Coat of Arms.
Admiral Chronographe Flyback Armure:
Two new watches constitute the new Armure line, the first one comes with a full polished stainless steel case and a beautiful sapphire dial decorated with polished applied roman numerals. A light touch of blue is added on the chronograph’s seconds and on the chronograph’s minutes hands. And adding the perfect finishing touch to the timepiece, a beautiful strap adorned with a delicate handmade blue stitching.
The second model features a stainless case treated with black DLC thereby giving the watch a very masculine and sporty note. A strong outlook accentuated by red chronograph hands and a red topstitch on the strap.
The Admiral Chronographe Flyback collection was first launched in 2015 with four elegant classic models, the following year, the collection was enriched with two models set with a sapphire dial bringing a touch of modernity to the collection. With this stainless steel addition, this line acquires a new and relaxed appearance offering a more casual look.

History
The founding two:
While working in the ateliers of Frédérique Constant, master watchmaker Pim Koeslag realized he had a common dream with the CEO of the brand, Peter Stas. Both watch aficionados wished to create their own minute repeater movement. After two long years of hard work Pim and Peter successfully presented their first Grande Complication the Tourbillon Répétition Minute. As this was such a special timepiece, Stas suggested the creation of a new exclusive brand dedicated entirely to exceptional high-end timepieces.
Ateliers deMonaco was founded in 2008, a brand synonymous with luxury and high-end watchmaking. The brand name was inspired by the city of Monaco, which stands as a symbol of royalty, glamour and luxury. Since its creation, the brand has continued to thrive with Koeslag as its technical director until he was finally appointed CEO end of 2016.
Monaco:
“One of the most rewarding things in life is to create. Yet, even more aspiring is to create something that lasts beyond your own life – a legacy”.
Peter Stas, Co-Founder
Monaco is the reflection of beauty and luxury and Peter has always loved the scenery and serenity of the Principality. He always had a passion for the sea and used to sail across the bay of Monaco.
From Monaco’s inspiration to the “Swiss Made” excellence.
Thanks to its faithfulness to the noblest criteria of haute horlogerie as well as a passion for mechanical innovations, Ateliers deMonaco won its place amongst the rarest and most renowned watch manufactures.
Beyond the artistic vision of any new and original masterpiece, men and know-how are at the heart of the brand’s creations, each stamped with the highest degree of expertise and excellence.
Daring innovation is a constant quest but it should never be separated from an outstanding watchmaking know-how.
From in-house mechanical movements to hand-crafted decorative components, evocative design features to chamfered and polished bridges, special engraving to sculpted skeleton dials through the appealing shape of a case, each element brilliantly showcases Ateliers deMonaco’s technical expertise and passion for haute horlogerie.
The hand finishing is “the added ingredient from the soul” which gives its uniqueness and signature to the creations. That’s why every individual Ateliers deMonaco timepiece is carefully polished, brushed and engraved by hand. A delicate process that can take over a 100 hours of work per watch.
Noblesse oblige:
Monaco’s contemporary beauty, elegance and spirit of excellence – upon which Ateliers deMonaco is built on and inspired by – culminated into the commitment to create its own manufacture. Nobility is not only linked to heritage, name or history. It’s not just about legacy or traditional codes and rules. True nobility can’t be bought or simulated. From traditional know-how to never ending innovation, through emotion, rarity and daring aesthetics, the brand’s nobility vision is stamped with eternal virtues that have embodied its spirit and style since 2008.
Nobility lies in the heart of each timepiece and became the core of the brand’s inspiration. It also comes from the faithfulness to the noblest artisanal techniques it intends to perpetuate in its mechanical timepieces. That’s why the brand’s soul will always be sealed by Monaco’s mystical spirit and its watches henceforth steeped into the incomparable “Swiss Made” tradition. This ideal meeting at the crossroads of emotion, technology and savoir-faire heralds the entry of the young manufacture into a new dimension of time, as perceived by the most demanding connoisseurs.
Swiss Excellence
From the Tourbillon to the Admiral Chronographe Flyback through the Poinçon de Genève, Ateliers deMonaco offers 6 exceptional mechanical ranges on top of a bespoke private collection.
Ateliers deMonaco is particularly proud to be one of the six brands bearing the demanding Geneva seal – a standard of excellence stemming from the tradition of haute horlogerie and rewarding high-end Geneva based watch brands.
As part of its dedication to haute horlogerie and Swiss Made excellence, the brand’s new headquarters are in Geneva, but its soul will always linger in the Riviera’s most beautiful jewel which has inspired its birth name: Monaco.
Heir of traditional high-end mastery. Visionary of technological virtuosity.
“We have always dreamt about making a mechanical watch movement which would be the most precise in the world.”
Pim Koeslag – CEO, Master watchmaker and Co-founder
Since 2008, Ateliers deMonaco has placed great emphasis on the development of new complicated mechanical movements, such as its own tourbillon minute repeater which let the brand enter in a very exclusive group of watchmakers having the ability to design and manufacture such a complication in-house.
The manufacture has already been rewarded with 4 patents:
Perpetual calendar with “EaZy adjust” system
The Quantième Perpétuel collection is made with an in-house developed perpetual calendar with an “EaZy adjust” system allowing to set the time, date, day, week, month and (leap) year by just using the crown.
“eXtreme Precision 1 minute” tourbillon
The Tourbillon collection is made with an in-house developed “eXtreme Precision 1 minute” tourbillon, one of the most accurate tourbillon movements in the world.
Flyback chronograph with “direct return to zero” mechanism
A pending patent for the “direct return to zero” mechanism: the latter is unlike any other chronographs directly activated by the 4 o’clock pusher. Its flyback hammer is programmed to action and disengage the chronograph clutch wheel, engage the brake, and turn the chronograph’s second and minute wheel all at the same time.
Geneva seal with “Freebeat” regulation system
The patented “Freebeat” regulation system allows us to regulate the length of the hairspring with an adjustable crémaillère (straight bar with teeth on one edge, allowing it to be fixed at different length) obsoleting the need for the regulation pins and thus avoiding the interference.
Inspiration is just the beginning of creation and achievement. Watchmaking art is the expression of a passion for the finest details and the perfection of actions. That’s the reason why Ateliers deMonaco haute horlogerie vision and our commitment are henceforth embodied in a new brand signature, Noblesse Oblige…
